Professional Indemnity

Learn more about Professional Indemnity Insurance with Tennyson the charity insurance experts

Professional indemnity insurance provides cover for claims brought against the policyholder for professional negligence. It is commonly used by organisations which provide advice to others.

Example

An organisation provides advice to a local group on a planning application. The advice is subsequently proved to be incorrect. Professional Indemnity cover will indemnify the organisation against an award for damages made in favour of their client.

Who needs Professional Indemnity Insurance?

Any organisation providing advice to clients (especially if they charge a fee), where an error could cause financial loss.

Please note that we include basic Professional Indemnity within our standard Public Liability cover and this is sufficient for the vast majority of organisations who may give occasional or ad hoc advice

What does it cover?

Financial losses caused by an error or omission in the advice or service which you provide.

What does it not cover?

Some of the exclusions that apply to this cover are:

  • Employers Liability exposures
  • Claims involving asbestos
  • Contractual liabilities
  • Defamation or Malicious Falsehood
  • Acts of Terrorism
  • Medical Malpractice
  • Viruses or similar mechanism, hacking or denial of service attacks

How much cover do I get?

Levels of cover vary according to the amount and type of advice that an organisation gives.  Talk to one of our specialists to find out whether you need this cover and, if so, how much you should have.
