Legal Expenses

Learn more about Legal Expenses with Tennyson the charity insurance experts

If your organisation has employees, you will be aware of the importance of remaining compliant with the huge volume of legislation that concerns every aspect of employment. Failure to comply with the legislation can lead to potential, current, or past employees bringing a claim against your organisation for unfair dismissal or discrimination.

Example

The cover is designed to protect you against the potential legal costs of employment disputes. For example, an organisation has a documented disciplinary procedure in place. For some reason one stage of a disciplinary process was not fully documented, and following their dismissal, an employee decides to bring a claim against the organisation for wrongful dismissal. The costs of defending against the claim are covered by this insurance.

Who needs Legal Expenses Insurance?

Legal Expenses cover can help with the costs of presenting defence against employment disputes. As with all insurance, there is a requirement on you to mitigate the risks you face by ensuring that correct HR processes are in place. However, oversights can happen and this line of cover offers protection should they do so.

What does it cover?

Legal Expenses insurance is intended to cover the costs, expenses, and any relevant compensation awards that are incurred in the defence of an Employment Dispute brought against you. Examples include cases relating to discrimination, disability, bodily injury, and data protection.

What does it not cover?

It does not act as a general safety net for all legal costs and it does not provide costs if you decide to sue someone.

How much cover do I get?

Appropriate cover can be arranged with us from £50,000 to £500,000 – this should be discussed in more depth with one of our specialists.

You can obtain extensions of this cover to include statutory licence protection and contract disputes.
