Learn more about Engineering Cover with Tennyson the charity insurance experts
This is the cover for technical equipment, so this page includes quite alot of technical information.
The term Engineering Cover actually incorporates two distinct items in insurance terms:
- Engineering Insurance
- Engineering Inspection
Examples
- The fuel pump on your boiler fails and as a result several gallons of heating oil leak onto the floor and through into the office next door. You need to replace the carpet in the office and thoroughly clean the building.
- You have a range of electrical equipment in your building, including cooker, water boiler etc. You need them to be regularly tested in order to comply with the Electricity at Work Act.
Who needs Engineering Insurance?
Anyone who has items of plant e.g. boiler, lifts, filtration systems, workshop machinery, refrigeration equipment etc should consider having this cover.
What does it cover?
- Deterioration of refrigerated stock
- Explosion or collapse (of boiler or pressure plant caused by steam or other fluid pressure)
- Breakdown (of mechanical or electrical plant)
- Extraneous damage (Damage to plant that necessitates immediate repair or replacement to enable normal working, excluding damage by Breakdown, Explosion or Collapse)
- Sudden and Unforeseen Damage (Explosion, Collapse, Breakdown and Extraneous Damage all in one cover)
- Lifted goods (Damage to property belonging to you or in your custody whilst it is being lifted by an item of Plant)
- Storage tank contents (Loss of contents of tank and associated clean up costs excluding damage caused by evaporation, seepage or normal trade loss)
- Contractors’ plant (Covers the insured’s own plant and equipment on an ‘All Risks Contents’ basis. Can be extended to include cover for loss or damage caused to hired-in plant and continuing hire charges applicable to the plant if damaged)
With covers 2-6 Own Surrounding Property Damage cover is automatically included. This covers damage caused to property surrounding the insured item in the event of a valid claim for covers 2-6.
What does it not cover?
These are some of the exclusions that apply to cover:
- Loss caused due to Corrosion and Erosion
- Consequential Loss (except Own Surrounding Property Damage)
