Business Interruption

Learn more about Business Interruption Cover with Tennyson the charity insurance experts

Business Interruption cover is taken out in addition to Material Damage cover, and protects you when a situation arises which means that your organisation cannot conduct its day to day activities. It splits into four categories:

  • Loss of revenue
  • Loss of rent
  • Additional expenses
  • Loss of system records

Example

Your office is flooded and it will take three months to repair and refurbish it. During this time (a) you cannot hire your meeting room out, (b) the tenant who was renting the spare office has to move out (c) you need to hire a temporary office and incur additional costs in doing so and (d) finally your computer system is damaged and you require an expert to recover the data. With full Business Interruption cover you would receive compensation for each of these issues

Who needs Business Interruption Insurance?

If your organisation could be disrupted by being unable to operate from its premises, and if the example above worries you, then it is important to consider Business Interruption.

What does it cover?

The costs of continuing to run your organisation when it is affected by an incident.

What does it not cover?

This cover does not normally include the loss of grants which your organisation has been awarded. It is a complex area and you need to clarify exactly what cover you need with us or with your advisor.

How much cover do I get?

You can choose a level of protection that is suitable and affordable; it should reflect the real cost that you may incur. Being under-insured in this area is self defeating in that you cannot continue to operate if there are insufficient funds.
