Background
Tennyson Insurance exists in order to provide insurance to charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations. We were founded in 2007, born as part of a specific insurance initiative run by Zurich Insurance and the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) and I am pleased that both of these prestigious organisations have remained as partners as our remit has expanded across the UK.
We are owned by Tennyson Limited, a business services company that was founded in 1998. We serve clients across the UK from our base in Chichester, West Sussex.
As a relatively new company we have had the luxury of designing our business ‘from the ground up’ to focus on customers. Key characteristics include:
- A close partnership with Zurich Insurance. When setting up the company we explored the route of becoming a broker i.e. dealing with lots of different insurers and seeking to deal with the one which was offering the best price in each situation. We concluded that we and, more importantly, our customers might be better off if we dealt with one insurer and brought them a large volume of business which would then attract a significant discount. The fact that we have been able to offer a cost saving or an improvement in cover (or both) to 74% of organisations that we have worked with suggests that this plan is working.
- A team of customer advisers who specialise in insurance for charities and other not-for-profit organisations. All of the team have achieved, or are studying for, the prestigious Certificate in Insurance issued by the Chartered Institute of Insurance. Many members of the team have experience of working in charities either as volunteers or as trustees.
- An innovative IT system, designed specifically for charity insurance, which minimises administration, paperwork and wasted time.
